Several "Mexican" dishes popular in the U.S. do not actually exist in Mexico. "Nachos" are seen served alongside popcorn in the local Cinemex with synthetic cheese sauce. "Burritos" exist on the menus of tourist restaurants, and you know those crunchy tacos from taco bell? I haven't seen a single one in three years. |
In any Mexican town the Zocalo is the central square, and usually a great place to sit on a terrace. It is often the noisiest place to sleep mind, and in a touristy Zocalo the food is inevitably shocking. Some of my favourites are Mexico City, San Cristobal, and San Andres Tuxtla. |
